Once again, it’s time to take that weekly peek into who might be available to help out your team. Below I have listed several players who are owned in less than 50% of leagues on ESPN and may be available in your league.

You can email us fantasy questions at steve@fightingchancefantasy.com and ryan@fightingchancefantasy.com. You can also follow us on Twitter, Steve @fantasygeek37 and Ryan @fightingchance. Also please like Fighting Chance Fantasy on Facebook right here.

Quarterback

Brian Hoyer, Chicago Bears. I normally don’t like to list people two weeks in a row, but Brian Hoyer is still only owned in 16% of leagues on ESPN and turned in his third straight good performance this week. He has now thrown for 317, 302 and 397 yards over the last three weeks including two touchdowns in each game and it’s looking more and more possible that he steals the starting job from Jay Cutler. He’s got a good matchup against Jacksonville this week and should be towards the top of the list for quarterback needy teams.

Alex Smith Chiefs

Alex Smith can help you both in the air and on the ground.

Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs. I know I’m going to hear it from Ryan, but I have to include Alex Smith on this week’s waiver report. He may not be a flashy name, but Smith is efficient and can make up for his lack of passing yards with his feet and rushing ability. Not only that, but he’s already had his bye week and his next four match ups are against the Raiders, Saints, Colts and Jaguars who are all very generous defenses against opposing quarterbacks. He’s very capable of putting up 250-0%300 passing yards, two scores with another 40-50 rushing yards and looks like he could bring really good value over the next month of the season.
Other Quarterbacks to Consider: Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans. Josh McCown, Cleveland Browns. Colin Kapernick, San Francisco 49ers.

Running Back

Jacquizz Rodgers Buccaneers

With Charles Sims out, Jacquizz Rodgers may see a big workload the rest of the season.

Jacquizz Rodgers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. News broke on Monday that Tampa’s third down specialist, Charles Sims was placed on IR and that leaves an opening for Jacquizz Rodgers to assume a significant role this season. Doug Martin is still out with a hamstring injury and hasn’t played a huge role in the passing game recently, and that leaves the door open for Rodgers to claim the spot that Sims once held. Rodgers looked impressive early on against the Panthers on Monday night, but then wore down a bit in the second half due to the heavy workload. He should automatically become the primary passing back and could be a decent flex option in PPR leagues.
Matt Asiata, Minnesota Vikings. When the Vikings lost Adrian Peterson, a lot of people including myself, thought Jerick McKinnon had a chance to assume a huge role in Minnesota’s offense. It looks like Matt Asiata had different plans as he had 14 carries for 55 yards with a touchdown and even added three receptions for 46 yards. It looks like Asiata will be the primary goal line back and even steal enough carries to hurt McKinnon’s value and has a place on rosters in most 12 team leagues.
Other Running Backs to Consider. Dion Lewis, New England Patriots. Justin Forsett, Detroit Lions. Bobby Rainey, New York Giants. Devontae Booker, Denver Broncos. James Starks, Green Bay Packers.

Wide Receiver

Sammie Coates Steelers

Sammie Coates arrow is pointing up in Pittsburgh.

Sammie Coates, Pittsburgh Steelers. Martavis Bryant Sammie Coates had a very nice week for the Steelers, as he had six receptions for 139 yards and two scores against the Jets in Week 5. Yes, the Jets have a horrible secondary and were without Derrelle Revis, but he has now had two straight weeks with six receptions and has 19 targets in those games. Ben Roethlisberger leads all quarterbacks in throws of 20 yards or more downfield and that stands to benefit Coates who is becoming a bigger part of the offense as the season goes on. Coates is my favorite waiver target of any position this week.
Cameron Meredith, Chicago Bears. Cameron Meredith of the Bears is the definition of boom or bust player on this week’s waiver report. He was an undrafted, wide receiver out of Illinois State last year and only totaled 11 receptions in his rookie campaign. However, he flashed his upside in Week 5 as the 6’3”, 207 pound wide receiver caught nine balls for 130 yards with a touchdown and he was targeted 12 times in the Bears loss. Kevin White was the leader in targets for the Bears prior to his injury and it looks like Meredith may take off right where White left off. He’s unproven, but if you like upside, Meredith showed us what he’s capable of.
Other Wide Receivers to Consider: Chris Hogan, New England Patriots. Jeremy Kerley, San Francisco 49ers. Breshad Perriman, Baltimore Ravens. Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers. Cole Beasley, Dallas Cowboys.

Tight End

Dwayne Allen, Indianapolis Colts. I was very high on Colts’ tight end, Dwayne Allen before the season began and after Week 1, I was almost ready to begin gloating. I’m glad I didn’t because he offered up a few stinkers in subsequent weeks until he finally got back on the fantasy radar this week as he caught six balls for 50 yards and a score. He’s in a system that likes tight ends and while there may be some ups and down with him, he is still a higher upside tight end that can definitely help if you are struggling at the position.
Other Tight Ends to Consider: Jesse James, Pittsburgh Steelers. Charles Clay, Buffalo Bills. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, New York Jets.
